Neuropathic pain is a particular kind of pain that stems from nerve damage in the peripheral nervous system. This condition is associated with other conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, sciatica, or HIV/AIDS, and can be caused as a side effect of chemotherapy treatments. Neuropathy can create extreme sensitivity to painful stimuli, pins and needles, cold or burning sensations, and numbness, to name a few common symptoms.
A 2015 review suggests that CBD can be effective in treating chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, and that the drug Sativex was effective in treating the neuropathy associated with both HIV/ADS and multiple sclerosis.1 Sativex is a 1:1 CBD:THC naturally derived pharmaceutical medication available by prescription in several countries.
