Cannabis can be used as both an appetite stimulant (useful for anorexia or cachexia, which involves weight and muscle loss due to severe chronic illness) and suppressant (useful for obesity). CBD is a general appetite suppressant. It has also been shown to promote the production of healthy “brown fat” (fat tissue packed with blood vessels that help us burn energy and produce heat), and promote lipid metabolism in general, which could be quite valuable in treating obesity.1
